A gradually increasing number of Clubs in our area have either always offered real beer as part of their service to members or have more recently provided cask. This list shows those Clubs known to sell real ale. Please note that Clubs have entry rules and, if in doubt, contact the Club in advance.

Catholic Club, Billingham, TS23 2RU

The club is housed in the fine old building called Greenholme, once the residence of the Catholic priest. Cask beer from two handpumps is available often some from Copper Dragon brewery. Beer festivals are held once or twice a year. You can buy a pint without being a member and you do not have to be of any particular religious faith to join the club.  The club opens every night of the week and also at lunchtimes on Sat, and Sun. Real ciders. External covered bar for barbecues, etc. Regular weekly R & B/Blues at weekends.

Elmtree Club, Fairfield, TS19 0QJ

Large club with massive bar, function room, lounge, extensive grounds, bowling green and three real beers. This is a very comfortable private club with admission rules. Please ask the Doorman. Open all day and situated in a very pleasant part of Stockton, [Fairfield], this club should not be confused with the nearby Fairfield Club. Buses: 13 [M-Sat daytimes], 505/506 [evenings and Sundays], 59 [near, everyday, till late].

Crossing Club, Grosmont, YO22 5QE

Cosy club next to the North Yorkshire Moors railway station. Owned by local villagers who set it up following a period when Grosmont went temporarily dry, The Crossing has featured well over 800 different beers since it opened. Naturally featuring much railway memorabilia, the Club is part of the former Cooperative building. Limited opening hours, mainly evenings may be extended during NYM.Railway steam galas. Set amid beautiful scenery in the Esk Valley in great walking country, but please note Grosmont is French for great hill ! Bus 99, Northern trains.

Lazenby Social Club, Lazenby

Substantial private members club opposite bus stop. Situated in the pleasant village of Lazenby just off the A174, near Eston. A sizeable bar with pool table, comfortable lounge and large concert room. Facilities outside include seating with smokers shelter. Indoor table tennis. New quoit pitches are to be laid in front of the club which was previously a member of the Cleveland Quoits League. Open 12 - 11 daily, The Social has had many real ales over the last few months and we are delighted to add another club to our gradually increasing list. Camra members must bring their cards to ensure entrance.

Toft House (Little Theatre Club), Linthorpe

A short distance from Linthorpe Village in a very pleasant part of Middlesbrough and offering two or more real ales. Anybody attending a performance at the Little Theatre is welcomed. If it is a Middlesbrough Little Theatre performance they dont even need to be signed in that night on production of their theatre ticket. New members to the Club will be welcomed so why not consider joining? Buses to this Club include 63, 67 (about 200 yds away) AND 11, 12, 17, 17a, 17b (about 50 yds away). open evenings and week ends.

Marske Cricket Club, Marske, TS11 7HB

Guest beers are available here which changes regularly, such as one from Copper Dragon or perhaps Deuchars. The club is open at lunchtimes and evenings every day even out of season and it has a premises licence which means that you do not have to be a member to buy a pint. But members get a discount.

Large sports club set in its own grounds near Marton Crossroads. Open all day for tennis and from 4pm for drinks. Beer is chosen by members from a list of popular session beers. Buses: 28,29/A, 63.

Norton Cricket Club, Norton

Norton Cricket Club was founded over 160 years ago and also has football, rugby, squash, tennis and archery, together with the Billingham Silver Band. The club, which opens 7pm [12noon Sat/Sun] to 11pm, has a bar, function room, snooker saloon and large lounge. Black Sheep Bitter is served. It is situated in Station Road, near the Norton Tavern. It is a private club, not CIU. Buses to get there are 37, 38 [near].

Lune Street Club, Saltburn

Men only CIU affiliated club just off Upleatham St, 300 yards from the station. It sells Cameron's Strongarm as its cask beer though another hand pumped beer is possible in the future. It has a large lounge and smaller bar with a library including reference works and an upstairs snooker room. Open 11 - 11 daily.

Saltburn Cricket Club, Saltburn

Situated near the railway bridge, local school, and leisure centre the Saltburn Cricket, Bowls and Tennis Club is some 500 yards from the Railway station. One large, comfortable, partitionable lounge/bar usually offering two real beers, this friendly club features regularly in the Good Beer Guide and has been a local branch Pub of the Season. The balcony overlooks the cricket field and casual visitors are most welcome. Open 8 till 12 midnight, and from 2pm. Sat match days, 1130 till 3, 8 till 12 Sundays. Buses X4, 28, 48, 748,788/9.

Whitby Rugby Club in White Leys Road has John Smiths Cask permanently available. The members and guests consume so much that the brewery delivers the cask beer in kilderkins rather than firkins.
