Black Horse, Whitby, YO22 4BH

Little gem located on Church Street. It is near the old market square on the right hand side as you head towards the abbey. The front bar tends to get crowded, you can go down the alley beside the pub and into the back bar. Offering 5 ever changing cask ales, Black Dog Rhattas, Timothy Taylors Landlord and Cains IPA recently. Also has real cider, Belgian beer, both bottled and on draught as well as a range of speciality bottled cider. An ever increasing range of tapas is available, with four or five different varieties of olives, a selection of Yorkshire cheeses and a range of seafood nibbles.

Situated in historic Church St. next door to the Duke of York [qv], The Board offers superb harbour views, bar/lounge and open snug, with two levels and three popular real beers from 4% including Olde Peculier normally available together with quality food. Open all day.

Situated next door to the Jolly Sailors on St. Anne's Staithe near the harbour and the Swing Bridge, The Buck is a solid, recently redecorated local  usually offerring three Yorkshire real beers. Good harbour views and food.

There are 3 permanent cask beers on handpump at this warm and friendly pub. Camerons Strongarm and John Smiths Cask both sell well and are headed by Tetley as the best cask seller. During August Folk Week there is music every evening provided my a dozen or so regular supporters. The pub is open all day every day.

Endeavour, Whitby

The Endeavour is situated opposite Grape Lane near the Captain Cook museum. Originally opened as The Imperial it now celebrates Cooks first imperial voyage to the Antipodes. Open the full hours, it offers up to five real beers including Taylors, John Smiths and various guest ales.

Historic town pub with a horse mount outside, 3 connected rooms around the central servery though the room to the right on entry is very definitely the bar. 2 rotating cask beers plus Westons Old Rosie with newspapers provided and an outside drinking area. The "Little A" is in the experienced hands of a long-established Whitby innkeeping family. No food.

Not currently selling real ale. Camra in Whitby was founded here in the mid 70s. Little altered over the years this town centre pub also has another entry at the rear from New Quay Road.
